The magic Sonu Nigam creates with his song is such that everyone falls in love with his voice, irrespective of which language the song is. This reminds me of a quote, "Music has no language barrier. It's just music, you should just listen to it and feel it."

One of India's Best Singer Sonu Nigam has sung many songs, in multiple languages - Urdu, Odia, Tamil, Assamese, Punjabi, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Nepali. But he has featured mainly in Hindi and Kannada languages.

Sonu Nigam was born on 30 July, 1973 in Faridabad, Haryana to Agam Kumar Nigam and Shobha Nigam. He began his singing career at the age of four. He used to accompany his father on his singing appearances at weddings and parties. Sonu was trained by classical singer Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. In order to start his singing career, at the age of 18, he moved to Mumbai with his father.

Sonu's first song in Kannada was from late Dr Vishnuvardhan's movie Jeevanadi (1996), 'Yello Yaro Hego'. Till now, Sonu has sung above 400 Kannada songs, which has won him several awards. Though he has sang many songs, it was Mungaru Male which took him to the peak. With this movie, he became a sensation in Sandalwood and was also called 'Golden Singer of Karnataka'.

Sonu was quoted by a leading daily, "Kannada songs make me feel positive." He also said that he highly respect the muscians of Karnataka and many of his favorite songs are in Kannada. He consider Bangalore as his second birth place. He added, "Even if someone requests me to sing a Kannada song while I'm performing in the West Indies, I will sing it for them."

Sonu Nigam sang a very melodious song, 'Ade bhoomi ade bhanu' for the actor for the movie E Bandhana. The lyrics was penned by Jayanth Kaikini.
It should be remembered that Sonu debuted in Kannada industry with late Dr Vishnuvardhan's movie Jeevanadi (Song - Yello yaro hego).

The film which made Sonu a sensational singer in Kannada film industry was Mungaru Male, which starred Golden star Ganesh, and Pooja Gandhi. He sang the title track 'Mungaru male' and 'Anisuthide yako indu'. 'Anisutide yako indu' was written by Jayanth and 'Mungaru maleye' by Yograj Bhat.

The songs not only set records of highest sales, but it also set a national record on 29 December, 2007, for completing one year screening in PVR cinema hall Bangalore, the first time an Indian language film to do so.

The romantic song 'Minchagi neenu baralu' by Sonu was superhit. It featured Ganesh and Daisy Bopanna. Song had V Harikrishna's music and lyrics by Jayanth Kaikini, which won Best Music and Best Lyricist awards at 56th Filmfare Awards South.

Sonu had sung many songs for Ganesh and audience love this combination as they feel that Sonu's voice suits best for Ganesh.
