Story In Detail

Mohanakrishnan Aachamthody is a teacher by profession, who has a halo of being a famous Author. Four students are on their way to invite him for the inaugural speech of their college union. ‘Color Balloon’ opens up with this seen. As the writer has already left for another function the students extend their journey to meet him at the same.

The protagonist of the story, this teacher, is a humble man despite his high achievements. On his way to the above mentioned function he reflects on the incident which inspired him to write the novel titled ‘Color Balloon’. And the story unfolds with vivid characters against the back drop of a lush green village.

Whole of the village, thekkethara love Suku and his family. Suku is employed in Mumbai. So his home comings on leave become a time for celebration for his wife and son. Villagers who are close to the family share this feeling . But one of them, Vaidhyar has a bad intension at heart for being close to Suku’s family. He is lustful towards pretty Seetha. When he reveals his desire the women’s reaction was a thrashing, verbally.

Appu excels both in studies and art, he is the beloved of all in his school. But this smart boy becomes a victim of cruel faith. One day Seetha gets the most tragic news of her life. Suku is no more. He had left for Mumbai only a few days back. The tragedy was mentally devastating for the women. Within a short period another Crushing Tragedy stares at her face. Now she has turned a big question between life and death.

The cause of Suku’s death, the most fearful decease, ‘AIDS’ prompts the villagers to keep away from his family. It was social boycott. The result of which the innocent beings suffer a lot. At this juncture comes a man to the village who is an apostle of God. He was none other than Mohanakrishnan Aachamthody. ‘Love is above everything’ was his philosophy. His words turned eloquent in his deeds. His helping hand stretched towards Seetha and Appu induced a new life in them.

Good- heart people also changed their attitude towards this family.

Appu’s S.S.L.C pass out was with flying colors. And he was facilitated by the village. During the function Appu’s wide eyes fill with water . Mohanakrishnan consoles him saying: stars don’t cry. For this success he owed much to his teacher Mohanakrishnan , and the boy worshiped him at heart.

A strong message is afloat in the sky along with ‘Color balloon’ – even in the worst adverse situation one should think and act positively.
