My Characters Should Have Substance: Jayasurya

Jayasurya, the versatile actor who made the audience awestruck with his performance as Angoor Ravuther, the soft-spoken antagonist of Iyobinte Pusthakam, says that the only criteria for him to choose the characters, is substance. The actor says that he is willing to play even a small character without much screen space, if it has a personality. Jayasurya added that he would like to play the roles which have some individuality; instead of cliched lead roles.

Jayasurya started his career as a VJ. The actor was the host of the popular television show Jagathy v/s Jagathy, which was based on the comical performances of veteran actor Jagathy Sreekumar. Later, he ventured into movies as junior artist. Jayasurya made his debut in lead role, with Vinayan directed Oomapenninu Uriyadapayyan, in which he played a dumb young man, opposite Kavya Madhavan.

Jayasurya went through a low pace in his career, with a bunch of typecasted roles and a series of flops. The actor bounced back into the industry with Lal Jose directed Classmates, in which he played a student leader with negative shades. He ventured into antagonists roles with Prithviraj starrer Kangaroo. Jayasurya's recent release Lal Bahadhur Shasthri, in which he played the title character Lal, is running successfully in the theatres.
