Double Barrel Movie Review: A Brave Attempt!

Double Barrel is the comical thriller which stars Prithviraj, Indrajith, and Tamil actor Arya in the lead roles. The movie is written and directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. Double Barrel is produced by Prithviraj, Santhosh Sivan, Shaji Nadesan, Arya, and Lijo Jose Pellissery, under the banners August Cinema and Amen Movie Monastery.

Double Barrel Plot

The movie revolves around a group of gangsters goons, and gamblers, including Pancho (Prithviraj) and Vinci (Indrajith). All of them are chasing after a precious pair of diamonds. The following incidents form the crux of the story.

Double Barrel Cast And Performance

Prithviraj and Indrajith, who plays the gamlers Pancho and Vinci, literally carry the movie in their shoulders. Indrajith is brilliant in their roles; while Prithviraj needs to improve his comical skills. Arya os okay in his role; but looses the grip over the character in certain points

Asif Ali has nothing much to do in his minimal role. Sunny Wayne disappointed with his dull performance. Swathi Reddy who plays Lailaa, is perfect in her role. The rest of the star cast includes Pearle Maaney, Chemban Vinod, Isha Sharvani, Rachana Narayanankutty, Sajid Yahiya, Anil Radhakrishnan Menon, Sherin Varghese etc are fine in their respective roles.

Script And Direction

Double Barrel is written and directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. The movie is an out-and-out comical thriller, which seems to heavily inspired by the graphic novels and gangster comedy movies.

But, it might be hard for the normal audience to accept such a different movie. But in short, Double Barrel can be quoted as one of the bravest movies ever made in the history of Malayalam cinema.

Technical Aspects

Abhinandan Ramanujam's cinematography deserves a special applause. The visualisation has acted as the soul of the film, and has created the perfect ambiance for the narrative. Sathyaraj's editing is upto the marks.

Praveen Varma has scored with the exceptional costumes, which has highly supported the characterisation of the movie. Keyframes Studios's visual effects are commendable.

Songs And Background Score

The songs and background score are composed by Prashant Pillai. The music director has tried to bring a difference in the music. But the songs miserably fails to impress; while the background score is brilliant.

Verdict

One of the bravest attempts in the history of Malayalam cinema; watch it with the mindset of a kid.
