Kasthuri Shankar, now at the age of 49 is busy playing various roles on Telugu television and is also taking up acting opportunities in several films. More than that, the actress often hits the headlines with her not-mincing-word attitude on several social issues and her lifestyle.

Kasthuri, who was born Shanmathi won the Miss Chennai title in 1992 after she graduated from Ethiraj College for Women. She also won the Femina Miss Madras beauty pageant the same year, which led her towards modeling and acting opportunities. Kasthuri pursued them beforehand and began his career in the entertainment industry in 1991 with a film titled 'Aatha Un Koyilile.' She rose to overnight popularity after playing the role of Kamal Haasan's sister in the movie Indian.

In Telugu, Kasthuri became famous after working in Nagarjuna-starrer Annamayya. She made her comeback to the silver screen with Malai Malai in 2009. Kasthuri also entered the Bigg Boss Tamil Season 3 in 2019 as a wildcard contestant. Kasthuri now plays the key role of Thulasi in the most successful Telugu serial 'Intinti Gruhalakshmi' on the Star Maa channel.

Kasthuri played the role of Kasturi Senapathy, Chandru's sister, and Senapathy's daughter who died in a fire accident. She received acclaim for her short yet impactful role.

Recently, Kasthuri reportedly revealed that she had sent her Bikin-clad photoshoot pictures to none other than director Shankar for the female lead role in the film Indian. According to a report on TV9, Kasthuri was quoted saying, "I wanted to anyhow grab that opportunity of working as a lead heroine opposite Kamal Haasan in Indian. I sent my photoshoot pics which also included me posing in a Bikini. Later, that role went to Urmila. I was young at that time and I wanted to grab that role. At the same time, Rangeela was released and Urmila's popularity grew up. So, the role went to her."
