The Tamil Nadu government has not given permission for the special screening of Ponniyin Selvan 2. Due to this, the first show of the film is going to be screened very late in Tamil Nadu. It has been revealed that Ponniyin Selvan 2 FDFS will start only at 9 am.

The government has also sent a circular to district collectors to take strict action if theaters that screen special shows in violation of government permission. Red Giant Movies is releasing the film in Tamil Nadu. However, permission was not granted for the early morning show. Due to this, the collection of Ponniyin Selvan 2 is also affected.

The reason for this is that last January, during the Pongal festival, when Thunivu and Varisu were released together, a fan of Ajith died in the name of celebration during the screening at the early morning show.
