However, since she announced her surprise wedding with her longtime bf, Shanawaz Shaikh, the actress has been in the headlines allegedly for being a victim of 'love jihad.'
To note, Shanawaz was Devoleena's fitness trainer, and after being in a relationship for some time, they tied the knot on December 14, 2022. Recently, she tweeted that her husband and she watched the controversial The Kerala Story. A user took to the comment section and criticised her wedding.

It all started when politician Sadhvi Prachi shared pictures of a screening of The Kerala Story in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. "'The Kerala Story' was shown free of cost to daughters in Haridwar," she tweeted.
Soon, taking a jibe at Devoleena's marriage with Shanawaz Shaikh, a troll called their union "love jihad'. But the actress, known for being blunt with her words, gave a befitting reply to the troll and stated that her husband is a "true Indian Muslim."
Mentioning that she watched the movie and that she always takes a stand for the right thing

Trolls have been constantly targeting Devoleena since she got married to her boyfriend, Shanawaz, in a court wedding. In an interview with the Indian Express, Devoleena opened up about the social media trolling she faces and said that she never thought that she would get so much hatred for marrying a Muslim.
She said, "Frankly speaking, I don't think about how social media trolls would react when I am making any life decision. We both are more concerned about our happiness and future. I feel if we are good, the blessings from the universe, and help us grow and live together."
