Shaakuntalam: Samantha's Utter Flop Flick Wins Four Awards At The Cannes Film Festival; Actress REACTS!

Samantha Ruth Prabhu-starrer Shaakuntalam, an epic fantasy love story picked up from the mythological saga titled Shakuntala, written by Kalidasa, is the biggest flop in the actress's career. Directed by Gunasekhar, the movie hit the screens as a pan-India venture on April 14.

Shaakuntalam bagged a load of negative comments, and bad reviews, and also has left a big dent for its producers, who invested a whopping on this movie which demands a high amount due to its story, setting, costumes, and VFX.

A couple of days before its theatrical release, the producers of the movie organized a special premiere of the film, which dampened the opening day collections. Against a budget of Rs 65 Crore, the movie could only make Rs 20 Crore.

However, surprisingly, Shaakuntalam reportedly won four awards at the International Cannes Film Festival.

According to the Twitter handle of Gunaa Teamworks, Shaakuntalam has been nominated for and won as many as four awards at the Cannes World Film Festival. The movie won Best Foreign Film, Best Costume Design, Best Fantasy Film, and Best Indian Film categories.

The film stars Dev Mohan, Sachin Khedekar, Mohan Babu, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla, Prakash Raj, Gautami, Madhoo, Kabir Bedi, Jisshu Sengupta, Kabir Duhan Singh, Varshini Sounderajan, Allu Arha, Harish Uthaman, Subbaraju, and Aadarsh Balakrishna among others in crucial roles.

Shaakuntalam Crew

Dil Raju and Gunasekhar produced the movie under the Gunaa Teamworks and Sri Venkateswara Creations banners. Mani Sharma composed the film's background score and music while Prawin Pudi worked as its editor. Sekhar V Joseph cranked the camera for the film.
