Renigunta – Movie Review

By Ramchander

Renigunta is directed by Paneerselvam with many new faces and with some seasoned artistes. The main lead in the film is Johnny, son of a producer SS Chakravarthy. The film, with action backdrop, came out very interestingly and the film was a big hit in Tamil. Let's see how it has come out in Telugu.

The story is all about Shakti (Johnny), who is a happy-go-lucky boy. His father Sethupati works in R & B Office and leads just a middle-class life. His life takes a twist after his parents get murdered right in front of his eyes by the people of Kathir, an accused in a murder case. The reason is Sethupathi is the key-witness in that murder case. Irked by watching the gory murder of his parents, Shakti decides to take revenge. But due to his inexperience he gets caught in the murder attempt and was remanded to 14 days in prison. Shakti makes friendship with Pandu aka Pandurangan (Nishanth), Dabba aka Prem Kumar (Ganeshan), Mari and Michael (Sandeep). They escape from jail and killer Kathir. After the murder, all the five decide to leave for Mumbai to escape from the local police. However, they were forced to get down at Renigunta, near Tirupati, where they meet Bunker (Bunker), who acts as broker between contract killers and clients. Incidentally, Shakti happens to meet a dumb girl (Sanusha) and falls in love with her. In fact, that dumb girl has an elder sister and brother-in-law. Her brother-in-law plans to introduce the dumb girl into the flesh trade. Realising this, her sister pleads with Shakti to take her away and elope. What happens next should be seen on-screen.

Performance:
Though novices Johnny, Sanusha and other artistes, have given very good performances in the film. All the other four artistes too delivered nice performance. The characterisation of Ganeshan (Dabba character) is excellent and he has maintained good comedy timing.

Technical:
Camera work by Shakti is appropriate and editing by Anthony is adequate. The only drawback in the film is the length of the movie. It dragged to about 2 hours and 35 minutes. The editor should have cut some repetitive scenes, like murders. Music by Ganesh Raghavendra is average. The picturisation of songs in the style and settings of Sasikumar. Being an action backdrop movie, the songs appeared to be speed breakers but they are necessary for some relief. The man behind the film’s commercial success is none other than the director of the film Panneer Selvam. The story, the script, the screenplay and the direction are simply superb.

Verdict: Excellent movie
