Rowdy is an emotional family drama with high voltage action and all other commercial ingredients to woo the film goers. Mohan Babu and Vishnu Manchu's performances are the main attractions in the film. RGV's gripping narration and punch dialogues, Sai Karthik's scintillating music, beautiful craftsmanship of Satish Muthyala's cinematography, a few intense action, comedy, romantic and sentimental scenes and beautiful serene locales are other attractions of the movie.
In terms of its story, Ram Gopal Varma has definitely taken inspiration from his own hit Hindi movie Sarkar, but he has done a few changes to the plot besides adding commercial elements to suit the taste of Telugu audience. It can be said that he has made it a notch better than the Bollywood film. This film has been made purely in RGV style.
Set in the arid landscapes of the faction ridden Rayalaseema region, Rowdy is a political thriller that revolves around the struggle of the hero against the larger than life villain, who has corrupted the society with his thirst for power. Though the film is rough and tough, it touches your hearts. It is a feel-good film packed with perfect shade of all human emotions.
Anna Garu (Mohan Babu) is a powerful leader in Rayalaseema and political leaders and officials work on his guidance. He has two sons - Bhushan (Kishore), who is arrogant and cruel, and Krishna (Vishnu Manchu), who is an obedient and intelligent guy. Anna Garu does not treat Bhushan due to his bad nature. Anna Garu's enemies (KR, Vedantham Murthy and Jeeva) take this opportunity and plan to kill him with Bhushan's help. How Krishna saves his father will form crux of the story.
Mohan Babu, who essayed a never-played-before role in Rowdy, steals the show with his sterling performance. He impresses the viewers with stern look and dialogue diction. As his obedient son, Vishnu has also done good acting. He impresses viewers in action sequences. Shanvi has done justice to her role as Vishnu's love interest. As Mohan Babu's wife, Jayasudha has given a convincing performance. Tanikella Bharani, Vedantham Murthy and others are good in their respective roles.
Rowdy has sound production elements, and Sai Karthik's songs and background score are the main attraction in the technical front. A couple of his composition are good and his BGM helps RGV to elevate the intensity of emotional scenes. Satish Muthyala's cinematography is another big strength of the film. Other technical departments have also delivered good job.
Overall, Ram Gopal Varma has taken story from his Sarkar and weaved a different screenplay for Rowdy keeping Telugu audience in mind. He has also added a few commercial ingredients to it. It is good entertainer and will be a treat for action lovers. Must watch film for Mohan Babu fans. Continue to read Rowdy movie viewers' review in the slideshow.
