Hit Malayalam Films In 2023

Mammootty's 'Kaathal The Core' is one of the hit Malayalam movies released in theaters this year. Directed by Jeo Baby, the film boldly delves into the theme of homosexuality, challenging societal taboos. Adding to the stellar cast, Tamil actress Jyothika portrayed a significant role alongside Mammootty. The movie released in theaters on November 23, 2023, raking in an impressive collection of Rs 13.15 crores within its first week. Despite receiving positive reviews, the film also encountered a barrage of trolling on various social media platforms.

Despite its modest budget, the film made a significant impact at the box office. Reports indicate that 'Falimy' amassed a worldwide gross of Rs 15 crore, with approximately Rs 10.5 crores coming from the domestic box office. Directed by debutant Nithish Sahadev, 'Falimy' centers around the journey of a dysfunctional family to Varanasi. The movie features Basil Joseph, Manju Pillai, and Jagadish in pivotal roles.

Kannur Squad is also one of the highest-grossers of this year. The film directed by Roby Varghese Raj and produced by Mammootty under the banner of Mammootty Kompany. The major roles in the movie are played by Mammootty, Rony David Raj, Azees Nedumangad, Shabareesh Varma, Kishore, and Vijayaraghavan.

Made as an action entertainer, “RDX” marked a historic milestone in Malayalam cinema.  Surpassing records, the film crossed the 50 crore gross collection mark at the Kerala Box Office, becoming the second non-superstar Malayalam movie to achieve this remarkable milestone. Directed by newcomer Nahas Hidayath, "RDX" features Shane Nigam, Antony Varghese, and Neeraj Madhav in the lead roles. Released alongside Onam contenders like Dulquer Salmaan's "King of Kotha" and Nivin Pauly's "Ramachandra Boss and Co," the movie received great positive responses from audience and critics.

Jithu Madhavan's directorial endeavor, 'Romancham,' made a profound impact at the box office. Reports unveiled that the film swiftly entered the 50 crores club within just 23 days of its release, marking a significant achievement.

2018  became the first Malayalam movie joined in the 200 crore club. The movie, which was released on May 5, raked in around Rs 5.18 crore on its ninth day from Kerala alone, which is an all-time record in Mollywood history. The film was directed by Jude Antony Jospeh and  stars Tovino Thomas in the lead, along with Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Lal, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan and Narain, among others.

Garudan, is a crime-thriller drama, which stars actor-politician Suresh Gopi and actor Biju Menon in lead roles hit theatres worldwide on November 3. It was directed by debutant Arun Varma and written by Midhun Manuel Thomas. Talking about it's box office collection, the movie has garnered an impressive Rs 12.25 crores in just 10 days of it's big release.

The comedy film hit the theaters on July 28 and has reportedly earned a box office collection of Rs 20 crore worldwide within 17 days. Directed and scripted by Raffi, the film stars Dileep, Veena Nandakumar, Joju George, and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.

The film has turned out to be the ‘ super hit’ of this year as it has reportedly collected more than Rs 8 crores from the box office. Helmed by Stephy Zaviour, ‘Madhura Manohara Moham’ hit the big screens on June 16 this year, and the film opened to several highly positive reviews from audiences. The movie featured a stellar cast that included the actors Sharafudheen, Rajisha Vijayan, Aarsha Chandini, Bindu Panicker, and many others in significant roles.
