Mammootty starrer historical drama 'Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja' is one of the most expensive movies ever made in Malayalam Cinema. A sum of Rs 27 crore was spent for the production. Like a complete historical drama, the film that tells the story of Pazhassi Raja, a legendary king and freedom fighter who fought against the British in the 18th century. Directed by Hariharan and scripted by M.T.Vasudevan Nair, the film marks one of the finest performances of Mega Star Mammotty. Apart from Mammotty, it also features Kaniha, Padmapriya, Manoj K Jayan and Sarat Kumar in  pivotal roles. Released in 2009, the film was well-received at the box office and won several awards. As per the reports the film earned over 32 crores from the box-office and emerged as the third highest-grossing film of that year.

Directed by National Award Winner Jayaraj, the film 'Veeram' is the most expensive film ever made in Malayalam. Based on William  Shakespeare's Macbeth, the film marks Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor debut in Malayalam. Apart from Kunal Kapoor,it also features many theatre artists and new faces. The pyschological thriller drama, was made on a big budget of Rs 36 crore and collected only 15 crore at the box office.

Pulimurugan has become the first Malayalam movie which entered the Rs 100 crore club. Billed as an adventure-action drama, made with a budget Rs 25 crore. Directed by Vyshkah, the film marks first collaboration of the dircetor with actor Mohanlal. Featured Mohanlal and Bengal actress Kamalini Mukherjee in lead roles, the film releaed in theatres in 2016. According to the reports, the film had crossed  Rs four crore at the box office in one day.

The film Urumi remains one of the best epics ever made in Malayalam. Starring Prithviraja in lead role, the film was directed by Santhosh Sivan. Like a pure epic drama, it depicts the story in two generations and two different period. It also highlights the background of french and portuguese influence on the political history of Kerala. Apart from Prithviraj , it also features actors Prabhu Deva, Arya, Jagathy Sreekumar, Nithya Menon, Genelia D'zousa, Vidya Balan and Tabu in  prominent role. Urumi is made on the budget of Rs 20 crore and earned Rs 30 crore at the box office.

Actor Mohanlal 's Barroz: Guardian of Da Gama's Treasure is one of the most-anticipated movies of 2023. Touted to be a fantasy drama, the film is written by Jijio Punnose, best known for 'My Dear Kuttichathan'. The film is based on the the novel written by Jijio Punnose with same title. Barroz: Guardian of Da Gama's Treasure marks directorial debut of Mohanlal. The film will be shot in 3D and can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
