L2: Empuraan Box Office Collection Prediction Day 11 Hindi: Veteran actor Mohanlal's latest pan-India biggie 'L2: Empuraan' has been in the news lately over the ongoing controversy regarding the depiction of the 2002 Gujarat riots. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the Malayalam-language action-thriller sequel to 'Lucifer' (2019) has already become the highest-grossing film in Kerala. Not only that, L2E also holds the record of being the biggest-opening film in Kerala. Amid huge pre-release buzz, the sequel hit cinemas worldwide on 27th March 2025. While the major chunk of its box office earning is coming from the Kerala market, the Hindi-dubbed version is yet to leave a strong mark. The film is struggling to meet expectation in the Hindi belt.

L2: Empuraan Total Box Office Collection So Far (Hindi)

Featuring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, L2: Empuraan sees the duo reprising their OG roles for Lucifer along with Tovino Thomas. Amid strong anticipation, the sequel opened to a whopping box office collection of Rs 21 cr (including all languages). While the film earned Rs 18.6 cr in Kerala, the Hindi-dubbed version managed to rake in Rs 50 lakhs only on the first day.

The Malayalam version went on to maintain a strong hold at ticket counters but the movie struggled to pull audiences to theatres in the Hindi market due to a strong competition from Salman Khan's Sikandar.

However, amid box office struggles in the North, Empuraan (Hindi) witnessed an almost non-noticeable hike in numbers yesterday (2nd Saturday, April 5) and added around Rs 7 lakhs (early estimates), according to Sacnilk. The 10-day total nett collection in Hindi is estimated to be at Rs 2.18 cr.

Week 1: ₹ 1.98 Cr

Day 8 (2nd Thursday): ₹ 0.08 Cr

Day 9 (2nd Friday): ₹ 0.05 Cr

Day 10 (2nd Saturday): ₹ 0.07 Cr

Total (Hindi): ₹ 2.18 Cr

Overall Total (Including all languages): ₹ 94.65 Cr

L2: Empuraan (Hindi) Collection Prediction Today (2nd Sunday)

Mounted on an alleged budget of Rs 180 cr approximately, the Mohanlal starrer has already recovered 50% of the budget at te box office. As the film is enjoying its 2nd Sunday today, a slight boost in overall numbers is already being anticipated. In Hindi, the movie is also expected to record a slight hike.

Given the current trend, L2: Empuraan might add somewhere between Rs 6-8 lakhs today (day 11, April 6), inching closer to the Rs 2.5 cr mark by the end of 2nd Sunday. If the prediction turns out to be correct, Empuraan will fail to even hit the Rs 5 cr-mark in the Hindi belt in 2nd weekend.

L2: Empuraan OTT Release Date & Platform: When & Where To Expect Mohanlal's Film On OTT?

As per an India Times report, the post-theatrical digital streaming rights of the movie has been acquired by JioHotstar (formerly Disney+ Hotstar). If the same report is to be believed, the film is likely to arrive on OTT around May 23, 2025. However, there has been no official confirmation yet.

Empuraan Controversy

Ever since the release, L2: Empuraan has been embroiled in controversies. It all started with the depiction of the scenes regarding the 2002 Gujarat riots, earning strong criticism from the right-wing groups. Following the huge backlash, the filmmakers voluntarily made 24 cuts, totalling over two minutes.

A day after the controversy, Mohanlal apologized with a heartfelt on Facebook. As per The News Minute, the translation of his Fb post read, "I have come to know that certain political and social themes portrayed in Empuraan, the second part of the Lucifer franchise, have caused deep distress to many who love me. As an artist, it is my duty to ensure that none of my films express hatred toward any political movement, ideology, or religious group. Therefore, both I and the Empuraan team sincerely regret the distress caused to my dear ones. We also acknowledge that the responsibility for this rests with all of us who worked behind the film. With this realisation, we have collectively decided to remove such elements from the movie. For the past four decades, I have lived my cinematic life as one among you. Your love and trust are my only strength. I firmly believe that there is no Mohanlal beyond that. (sic)"

Amid the controversy, Prithviraj Sukumaran came under the spotlight once again after he received a notice from the Income Tax department concerning income declarations related to three of his 2022 co-productions-Kaduva, Gold, and Jana Gana Mana.
