On Saturday, Empuraan had Rs. 0.4 Crore of Hindi collection, while on Sunday, it earned only Rs. 0.25 Crore. There will undoubtedly be a fall again on Day 5 as well since it's a Monday. Empuraan has been facing much controversy because of showcasing the Gujarat riots. As per Indian Today's report, the movie is likely to have 17 cuts in it. Amid the controversy, Chief Minister Vijayan too to his X hadle to claim, "The communal hate campaign against #Empuraan and its creators is deeply disturbing. This is yet another example of a growing pattern where coercion and intimidation are used to silence dissent - tactics that have always been hallmarks of authoritarianism. Undermining creative freedom through fear and threats strikes at the very core of democracy. Freedom of expression is a fundamental right; we must stand united to defend it (sic)."

As per the reports, the makers of Empuraan are being criticized for allegedly showcasing "anti-Hindu ideology" in the film. Many claim that the references given in the movie about the Gujarat riots are indirect. These criticisms are coming form the right-wing. However, the Congress and the Left-wing are praising the makers.

After Kerala CM released his statement, former Union Minister and Kerala BJP Chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, "Its clear that not many people like the film Empuraan. Some people like it and one among those is Pinarayi Vijayan. Its Vijayan who politicised the issue over the film and the Congress followed suit. The controversy is completely created and filmmakers tactics to generate more publicity for the film might also be behind it (sic)." The former Union Minister further added, "The developments related to the movie Empuraan was escalated into a row. The BJP faction is of the opinion that one should regard a movie as it is. Those who watch a film has the right to criticise and express their views. Neither me nor my party has said anything other than this (sic)."
