But did you know that long before any of these above-mentioned actresses, there was one actress who was in crazy demand and was also named as the first female superstar of the country?
If you are wondering who she was, then let us tell you that it was none other than the versatile performer Sridevi. Yes, you heard that right! A Bollywood actress who had worked in several Indian languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, was regarded as one of the most prolific stars of her time.
She died on February 24, 2018. She started her career as a child actor at the age of 4 in Tamil cinema and went on to become one of the most sought-after actresses as an adult. Born on August 13, 1963, at Meenampatti village in Tamil Nadu, Sridevi remained in the film industry for around five decades.
Sridevi was the first highest paid actress in Bollywood
Sridevi has worked with several A-list actors like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, and others. According to reports, the late star was the highest paid actress in Bollywood. If we go by some media reports, Sridevi was the first heroine in B'town to charge Rs 1 crore for one of her movies.
The English Vinglish actress getting paid 1 crore is worthy of a mention because, in those days, only male heroes used to get paid such hefty fees. For the uninitiated, Sridevi's first Hindi film was Solva Sawan, which tanked at the box office.
She turned into an overnight star with 1983's Himmatwala. Well, there's still no replacement for Sridevi.
