Priyanka Chopra was not the first choice for Mary Kom's biopic?

Yes, you read it right. As per the recent buzz, actress Priyanka Chopra was not the first lead choice for filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming biopic on Mary Kom's life.

According to a leading daily, Bhansali wanted Rani Mukherjee to play the role in the biopic. In fact, it is said that Rani was initially the first choice for the concerned Mary Kom's role. But, she lost out the golden opportunity to Priyanka Chopra, under certain unreasonable conditions.

Sources informed the daily that Rani Mukherjee had earlier burnt her fingers badly with relatively new directors Anurag Singh in Dil Bole Hadippa and Sachin Kundalkar in Aiyya. Hence, when Omung Kumar, the director of Mary Kom's movie approached Rani for the film, the latter suggested the director to first shoot a few scenes with her. If she likes it, she'd do the complete film.

Reportedly, this is when Omung chose not to waste any time and signed Priyanka Chopra for the role. It is said that Priyanka is working day and night to get into the shoes of Mary Kom.
