Salman
Khan
was
on
Wednesday
sentenced
to
five
years
in
jail
for
a
2002
hit-and-run
accident
that
left
one
man
dead
and
four
others
injured.

Deshpande
announced
the
verdict
at
a
packed
court.
Earlier,
the
actor
was
found
guilty
on
most
of
the
charges
levelled
against
him
in
the
incident
that
took
place
in
suburban
Bandra.
He
is
likely
to
be
taken
into
police
custody
soon
and
taken
to
the
Arthur
Road
Central
Jail
in
south
Mumbai.
According
to
reports,
Salman
Khan
was
shocked,
lowered
his
head
with
tears
in
his
eyes.
She
added
that
the
court
concluded
that
Salman
Khan
was
really
driving
the
car.
Another
prosecution
lawyer,
Pradeep
Gharat,
said,
"We
tried
our
best
to
bring
the
truth
to
light.
We
wanted
the
accused
to
get
maximum
punishment
so
that
no
one
dares
to
repeat
a
crime
like
that."
