Two decades ago, Sangay reportedly served in the Bhutanese Army. During his time in the armed forces, he developed a passion for fitness, ultimately leading him to a career in bodybuilding, which prompted him to resign from the army.

Speaking about his Bollywood debut back then, Sangay stated that he had never imagined becoming an actor. Calling it his destiny, he gave credit to Salman Khan's kindness that led to the opportunity.
