Ratan Tata Last Rites Timings: At 86 years old, Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons and recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, passed away on Wednesday (October 9) at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. Having been in critical condition and receiving intensive care, Tata had revealed just two days earlier that he was undergoing routine medical tests due to age-related health concerns.
RATAN TAT CREMATION DETAILS: TATA CHAIRMAIN TO GET STATE FUNERAL
The Maharashtra government has declared a state-wide day of mourning on October 10 to honor the memory of industrialist Ratan Tata, as confirmed by the Chief Minister's office. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings in Maharashtra as a tribute.
Tata's mortal remains will be placed at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in South Mumbai from 10 am to 4 pm for the public to pay their respects. His last rites will be held in Worli crematorium later in the day at around 3:30 pm, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected to attend the ceremony.
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) has announced that, as a mark of respect, the national tricolour will be flown at half-mast on government buildings across Maharashtra. Additionally, all entertainment events will be suspended during the period of mourning.
RATAN TATA'S JOURNEY TO THE TOP
Ratan Tata's illustrious career began in 1961 when he joined the Tata Group, initially working on the shop floor of Tata Steel. He became chairman of Tata Sons in 1991, succeeding J.R.D. Tata.
Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded globally with significant acquisitions like Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus. Recognized for his contributions to Indian industry, Tata received the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, India's third and second highest civilian honors, respectively.
