The Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group breathed his last on Wednesday night (October 10) at the age of 86 in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. He was suffering from age-related ailment. Despite his great achievements, the industrialist remained unmarried. But why?
Ratan Tata Death News: When Late Ratan Tata 'Almost' Got Married Once
The former Tata Sons chairman and philanthropist Ratan Tata was one of the most respected businessman not just in India but also internationally. Before his death, the businessman's whopping net worth, according to reports, was estimated to be around Rs 3,800 crores.
On personal front, Ratan Tata remained unmarried all his life. Years ago, he had talked about how he 'almost' got married once and the reason why it got cancelled had a connection with a war with China.
During his appearance on Karishma Mehta's podcast, Ratan Tata opened up on almost getting married in Los Angeles back in the day but he had to return to India because his grandmother.
He was quoted saying, "I almost got married in Los Angeles... but couldn't because I returned to India soon after to be with my grandmother. The person I hoped to marry was supposed to join me shortly after. But as fate would have it, India was thrown into a war with China and her parents refused to let her visit a country that was at war. And so, we were left with an 'almost', a 'would have been'."
Ratan Tata Love Life: Why Did The Industrialist Never Get Married?
In the same podcast, he also talked about his love life and other relationships. "After that, there were other relationships, but I never found anyone I could call my wife. And by then, my life itself had become a conflict. I was constantly working and traveling, with little time for myself. But today when I look back, I don't regret any of it, not even for a second," he added.
During his appearance on Simi Garewal's iconic talk show 'Rendezvous With Simi Garewal' (1997), when late Ratan Tata was asked he chose to remain a bachelor, he stated, "I don't know what motivated me to that. There are many times I feel lonely, not having a wife or a family. Sometimes I long for it, sometimes I enjoy the freedom of not having to worry about someone else, or the the feelings of someone else's concern. Another times it gets very lonely."
"Whole series of things - timing, my absorption in work at that time. I got very close to getting married few times but it didn't happen," he added.
