In a saddening turn of events, Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain has passed away on Sunday (December 15). According to reports, the renowned composer was 73 years old when he breathed his last at the hospital in San Francisco, USA.

Earlier today (December 15), Ustad Zakir Hussain's brother-in-law Ayub Aulia confirmed the news of the tabla maestro being hospitalized due to 'serious' ailments in San Francisco, US, to journalist Pervaiz Alam. He also requested Zakir Hussain's fans to pray for his speedy recovery.

On Sunday evening (December 15), news of music maestro Zakir Hussain being hospitalized in US left his fans concerned. A while ago, the renowned tabla legend Zakir Hussain passed away at the age of 73.

As reported by Zee News, late Zakir Hussain's friend and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia had told PTI that the legend was admitted to the ICU due to heart-related problems. According to a Live Mint report, Zakir Hussain's Nirmala Bachani stated that the late composer was in the hospital since the past two weeks due to heart related problems.

Bachani stated, "He has been admitted to a hospital in San Francisco for a heart related problem for the last two weeks (sic)".

Who Was Zakir Hussain?

Zakir Hussain was one of the prominent names in the global world of music. Born on 9th March 191, late Zakir Hussain was the eldest son of the iconic tabla player Allah Rakha. Late Zakir Hussain had been awarded with several prestigious awards including the Padma Shri in 1988, the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Vbhushan in 2023. In February 2009, he had also received the 51st Grammy Awards.
