The renowned Tabla player breathed his last at the age of 73 and left for heavenly abode, leaving behind an unmatchable legacy in the world of music. Yesterday (Sunday, December 16), reports of Zakir Hussain being admitted in the ICU at the hospital in San Francisco, US, left everyone concerned. Last night, news of him passing away sent shockwaves across the entire country. Earlier today, late Zakir Hussain's family confirmed his death.

Zakir Hussain Death Reason, Family Statement

In the wee hours of Monday morning (December 16), renowned Tabla player Zakir Hussain's family issued an official statement and confirmed his death. In the statement, it was stated that Zakir Hussain succumbed to death at the age of 73 due to 'idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis'. As per National Institutes of Health, IPF is a chronic diseases that 'affects the tissue surrounding the air sacs, or alveoli, in the lungs.'

As quoted by India Today, late Zakir Hussain's official statement read, "Zakir Hussain, one of the world's most transcendent musicians, passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in San Francisco at the age of 73. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come. (sic)"

As the entire world mourns the disheartening death of legendary Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, a video of the 73-year-old's last public appearance is going viral on the internet.

As reported by News18, Zakir Hussain made his last public appearance in February this year when he'd attended the last rites of renowned ghazal singer Pankaj Udas in Mumbai.

For those unversed, Pankaj Udas had passed away on 26th February 2024 after a prolonged illness.
