The film draws inspiration from the real-life incident involving Uzma Ahmed, an Indian woman who, in 2017, was forced into marriage in Pakistan and sought refuge at the Indian embassy to return home.

In The Diplomat, John Abraham portrays Indian diplomat J.P. Singh, who embarks on a high-stakes mission to rescue Uzma Ahmed, referred to as the "Daughter of India," from captivity. The narrative emphasizes Singh's reliance on intellect, resilience, and tactical prowess, highlighting diplomacy as a formidable tool in international relations.
