Raid 2 Movie Review: Ajay Devgn’s Sequel Delivers Late Thrills, Riteish Deshmukh Steals The Show

Raid 2 Movie Review

Rating:
3.0/5

Raid 2 Movie Review: Raid 2, the sequel to the 2018 hit Raid, hits the big screen with high expectations and a promise of another thrilling showdown between honesty and corruption. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the film sees Ajay Devgn reprise his role as the righteous IRS officer Amay Patnaik.

While the premise offers intrigue and drama, Raid 2 doesn't quite pack the punch of its predecessor, but still manages to deliver a watchable experience, especially for fans of the genre. Let's take a look at the full review here:

RAID 2 PLOT REVIEW: INTERESTING PREMISE WITH SHAKY START

Raid 2 kicks off with a surprising twist - Amay Patnaik faces bribery charges and gets transferred for the 74th time, now to Bhoj, Rajasthan. Although the initial pace is slow as the plot unfolds gradually, a smart twist in the storyline picks things up and brings fresh energy to the first half.

In Raid 2, IRS officer Amay Patnaik faces off against a powerful and corrupt politician, Manohar Dadabhai, played by Riteish Deshmukh. When Amay begins a major raid, things don't go as planned, the search leads to nothing at first. But as he digs deeper, he uncovers a complex web of political lies and corruption, making his fight for justice more difficult than ever.

In the second half, the cat-and-mouse game between Amay and Dadabhai takes center stage, and their interactions are among the film's strongest moments. Ajay Devgn's Amay is calm yet intense, but this time, his personal arc doesn't hold as much weight, partly due to a lack of chemistry with Vaani Kapoor, who plays his wife in the sequel. The love songs between them look forced and could've been avoided.

The storyline picks up significantly in the second half once Amay starts digging into Dadabhai's history. The tension between them keeps the audience hooked, especially leading up to the interval, which ends on a high note with Amay's dramatic suspension. Yes, you read that right!

After the interval, the film slows down a bit. The pace drops, and the excitement from the first half fades a little. However, the story picks up again near the end when Amay finds a big clue against Dadabhai.

The film's pre-climax and climax sequences offer some redemption, wrapping up the storyline with engaging confrontations and a few satisfying surprises. Still, one can't shake off the feeling that Raid 2 could've been more gripping had the script been tighter and the first half more impactful.

RAID 2 ACTING REVIEW: RITESH DESHMUKH STEALS THE SHOW FROM AJAY DEVGN

Ajay Devgn, as always, delivers a solid performance. His portrayal of Amay Patnaik remains sincere and focused, though the script doesn't give him many new shades to explore. Riteish Deshmukh, however, delivers a layered performance that evolves from calm to cunning in the second half.

Vaani got limited screen space and did okay in her role. The romantic angle between Ajay and Vaani feels dull. There is no real chemistry between them, and their scenes don't add much to the story. Saurabh Shukla, in a supporting role, does well and adds weight to the scenes he's in. A special mention to Amit Sial, who plays the police officer replacing Patnaik after his suspension. He'll make you laugh and leave a strong mark.

RAID 2 OVERALL VERDICT: A DECENT POLITICAL DRAMA

Overall, Raid 2 is a decent political crime drama that gains steam after a shaky start. It might not be as gripping or hard-hitting as the original, but it manages to hold attention thanks to a few strong performances and an engaging climax. Riteish Deshmukh's performance and his chemistry with Ajay Devgn make this a watchable sequel, even if it doesn't fully meet expectations.
