Fifty Shades of Grey first won our minds and hearts, and now the box office too! Soon after the release of the erotic R rated film, the box office has been soaring worldwide.

Fifty Shades of Grey released on Valentine's Day and over the weekend which also includes the Presidents Day holiday, the movie has made a lot of money. 50 shades has already made more than $239 million worldwide, including $81.7 Million domestically in the US in just 3 days.

That is not all! Fifty Shades ranks among the biggest R-rated debuts in history. The movie which is the first installment from the trilogy stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. The story shows a life of a kinky billionaire, Christian Grey who has a fetish for bondage, and Anastasia who is a naive college student and falls in love with Grey.

Fifty Shades of Grey which is an adaptation by a novel by British author, E.L. James of the same name grossed $81.7 million from 3,646 locations over the three-day period, reports Variety.

The movie has broken the holiday's previous record-holder, the 2010 debut of the romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," which kicked off with $56.3 million.

"It went beyond being a girls' night out movie and became a date night movie," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior box office analyst at Rentrak.

After a decade, a movie which has a nice blend of romance and bondage has come up on the big screen which gathered a lot of attention.

"Fifty Shades of Grey's" opening weekend audience was 68% female, 52% Caucasian, 22% Hispanic and 15% African-American. The picture played well on premium large format screens, which drew $7.4 million, as well as on Imax, which contributed $2.1 million.

Fifty Shades of Grey has not released in many parts of the world yet. So, the box office collections will increase further thus breaking many records and making many!
