2018 Movie: Writer Susmesh's Scathing Criticism: They Deliberately Omitted THAT; And Failed Politically

Susmesh Chandroth Says 2018 Failed Miserably Politically and Creatively

Susmesh Chandroth Says '2018' Failed Miserably Politically and Creatively: Writer and screenwriter Susmesh Chandroth criticises Jude Anthony Joseph's 2018 film, which became the fastest ₹100 crore-collecting film in Malayalam.

2018 is a politically and creatively miserably failed film. Susmesh Chantroth commented in a Facebook post that the script of the film could have focused on the will and leadership of the state government that managed the flood at that time.

When a film is based on true events, it is not good to drown out the facts. Or it is apolitical. Otherwise, it is clearly taking sides. Everyone knew that, when the subject is the biggest flood that Kerala has seen in almost a hundred years, it should not be recreated as a work of imagination.

But it is not possible to convey all the things that happened in the movie in two or two and a half hours. There is no need for it. To know if the well water is adulterated, it is checked by taking a drop of water without taking the whole well water. Similarly, in the script of the movie 2018, the story could have been made by keeping the will and leadership of the state government that managed the flood at the center of the story.

You don't have to make a movie that glorifies Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan or L.D.F. But could have portrayed in the movie how the government, its mechanisms, and its members worked together. Three or four scenes with twenty or thirty shots with a duration of ten or twelve seconds are enough to tell that in the movie. It may take ten minutes at the maximum. The crew of the film is not ignorant of that. But they deliberately omitted it. And that is where the viewer's disappointment happens, Susmesh wrote.

Jude's film Creates History At The Box Office

Meanwhile, Jude Anthany Joseph's film ' 2018:Everyone is a Hero' is moving forward with a historical box office collection. The film, which is based on the 2018 Kerala floods, is progressing with great response from theatres and receiving praise from the audience and critics.

The film came without any huge hype or promotion and brought people to the theatres. Seeing the survival of the Great Flood on the big screen filled every viewer's eyes with tears. 2018 is also the film that got positive word-of-mouth publicity after the recent thriller 'Romancham'.

The film has been performing well at the box office since the day of its release, and it has become the new Malayalam industry hit. Earlier, this record was for Mohanlal's 'Pulimurugan' which was released seven years ago. This film has also bagged the record for Mollywood's highest grosser in all territories and the all-time blockbuster of Malayalam cinema.

According to film trade analysts, yesterday was another strong day for the 2018 movie at the Kerala box office, as the film had only a 13.5% drop from Tuesday's gross collection. The total 20-day gross collection of the film in Kerala is estimated at around ₹72 CR. The film will cross Baahubali 2's Kerala collection record by today's matinee shows and is all set to cross Pulimurugan's record [₹78.5 CR] by Sunday.

Earlier, within 10 days of its release, 2018, entered the 100 crore club, and Jude's film has earned the reputation of being the fastest Malayalam film to enter the 100 crore club. 2018 surpassed Lucifer, which reached the 100 crore club in 12 days, to achieve this record.

Movies like Lucifer, Pulimurugan, Bheeshma Parvam, Kurup, Madhura Raja, and Malikappuram are Malayalam movies that have entered the 100 crore club before.
