Harish Pengan's Friend's Note: He Is Not A Drunkard: When actor Harish Pengan, who was undergoing treatment for liver disease, bid farewell to this world, his close friend, line producer, and director Manoj K. Varghese's note shared on social media on May 14 is now being discussed.

When Harish Pengan was diagnosed with liver disease and sought medical help, many people attributed his illness to excessive drinking. However, Manoj asserts that Harish was not an alcoholic.

"After we talked together at my house till two in the afternoon, Harish was supposed to go to Ernakulam that day for dubbing, but on the way, he experienced a stomach ache and was admitted to Amrita Hospital. Until that point, Hari had not shown any signs of liver disease. As I have observed from numerous comments on social media, I can confidently affirm that Hari is not an alcoholic," says Manoj.

A few days ago, friends, including myself, who love him came forward to request help for the treatment of our dear friend Harish Pengan through prominent television, the press, and social media. Being the one who initially posted a Facebook post about these requests, I would like to share a few words. Harish Nair MK is not just a film actor known as Harish Pengan to many others; to me and to us, he is our beloved Hari, a close friend for over 40 years.

Many of Hari's friends (including leading film stars) took to social media to seek help for him after learning of his current condition. The most common comment on those posts is why an organisation called 'AMMA' is not assisting. We understand that every organisation operates based on its own set of rules. Harish is not a member of 'AMMA'. Due to this reason, the 'AMMA' organisation has limitations in providing assistance as a collective entity. This is what Idavela Babu said when I presented the matter to him. And that's understandable.

But the members of the organisation have no difficulty helping Harish personally. It is also a very happy thing that many people, including actresses, actors, and technicians who have worked together with Hari, have come forward to help him. Anyone who has worked with Harish and knows him is aware of his willingness to become a member of AMMA. The truth is that he faced difficulties in paying the membership fee all at once, which resulted in a delay in obtaining the membership.

He Only Had a 5 Cent Plot, And That Was Pledged

While stating this, readers can grasp the extent of Harish's financial situation. Those familiar with the film industry are aware of the compensation typically received by actors like Harish, who primarily play minor roles in Malayalam cinema. Harish owns 5 cents of land (that land is mortgaged to the bank) and a small tea shop.

Aware of the substantial expenses associated with the surgery, a few of us who deeply cared for Harish initiated a plea, urgently raising funds and seeking assistance to save his life, Manoj said.
