Mammootty shed his mega star image yet again, to play the deadly antagonist of Kalamkaval, which features Vinayakan as the leading man. Even though the film has already earned blockbuster status at the box office, it is still lagging behind the Mohanlal starrer Thudarum.

The Mammootty starrer achieved this big feet within the first 8 days of its release. However, the neo-noir crime thriller is still lagging behind Thudarum, the Mohanlal starrer action drama film which was released in April 2025.

The Tharun Moorthy directorial, which emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of Malayalam cinema, touched ₹130 crore mark within the first 8 days of its release at the worldwide box office. While comparing it with Kalamkaval, the film has collected only around the 50 percent of the Mohanlal's starring action drama films 8-day collection, so far. Now it is safe to suggest that Thudarum is now untouchable for Mammootty's crime thriller.

But, considering the current box office trends, it is safe to assume that Kalamkaval has high chances to cross the ₹80 crore mark by the end of its second weekend at the theatres. In that case, the Jithin K Jose directorial might touch the ₹90 crore mark by the time it completes 20 days at the theatres. The film also has high chances to cross the ₹100 crore mark globally, by the time it completes its lifetime run at the theatres.
