Mohanlal's Mother Passes Away: Santhakumari Amma, the mother of Malayalam cinema's legendary superstar, passed away. The 90-year-old reportedly breathed her last at her son Mohanlal's residence at Elamakkara, Kochi, today. For the uninitiated, the star mother, who suffered a paralysis attack over a decade ago, was under treatment at the actor's Kochi residence from a long time.

Santhakumari Amma was the wife of late Vishwanathan Nair, who was a former law secretary with the Kerala Government. She had another son named Pyarelal, the elder brother of Mohanlal, who passed away in 2000 following a massive heart attack. As per the latest updates, Santhakumari Amma's final rites will be held in Kochi, Kerala, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Reportedly, Mohanlal was by his mother's side when she breathed her last.

For the uninitiated, Mohanlal has always stated that he was the closest to his mother Santhakumari Amma, while growing up. It was the mother who first recognised the immense talent in her son, and encouraged him to follow his heart and chase his dreams.

However, the star mother has not watched many of Mohanlal's classic films, including Kireedam, Bharatham, Sadayam, and more, as she never liked to watch her son crying or suffering onscreen. But, Santhakumari Amma was always immensely proud of her son's unparalleled body of work, and was a huge fan of his comedy and romantic films.

In some of her rare interviews, the star mother had revealed that she loves it the most when Mohanlal dances and sings onscreen. Interestingly, she once confessed that she always urges the actor to stop doing traumatic films, and take up humours and romantic projects, instead.

After receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award recently Mohanlal returned to Kochi immediately returned to Kochi, to share the news of his extraordinary win with his mother. The actor, who addressed media at that time, had revealed that his mother has not been able to respond from a long time, but still understood everything very well.
