Top 5 Highest Grossing Malayalam Movies 2025: The Malayalam film industry has a fantastic run at the box office this year, with back-to-back blockbusters that did extraordinary business worldwide. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra lead the pack and emerged as the industry hit and the first-ever ₹300 crore film of the industry. The superhero film was followed by L2 Empuraan, which performed exceptionally despite receiving mixed reviews.

Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra

The superhero film written and directed by Dominic Arun, and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, hit the theatres in August 2025, and emerged as the surprise blockbuster of the year. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra starrer Kalyani Priyadarshan as the titular character, while Naslen appeared in a pivotal role. The movie, which earned extraordinary reviews from both the audiences and critics, earned a whopping ₹302.65 crore from the worldwide box office, within its lifetime run at the theatres.

L2 Empuraan

Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran reunited after a short gap for the latter's third directorial venture, a sequel to their 2019-released blockbuster Lucifer. L2 Empuraan, which was released in March 2025, created major stir on social media with its plot, and divided the netizens. The film even received mixed reviews from the common audiences. However, this did not stop Empuraan from emerging as the second highest grossing film of 2025, by earning a lifetime collection of ₹268.8 crore from the worldwide box office.

Thudarum

The action thriller film which marked Mohanlal's first collaboration with talented filmmaker Tharun Moorthy, was the another surprise blockbuster of this year. Thudarum, which marked the reunion of the superstar and senior actress Shobana, hit the big screens in April 2025 without a massive pre-release hype or extensive promotions. However, the movie collected over ₹238 crore from the worldwide box office, within its lifetime run at the theatres.

Kalamkaval

Mammootty collaborated with newcomer Jithin J Jose and actor Vinayakan for the recently released neo-noir crime thriller Kalamkaval, which was released in December 2025. The movie has been performing exceptionally well at the box office, and has already emerged as one of the highest grossing Malayalam Movies of 2025. The Mammootty starrer, which has reportedly touched the ₹83 crore mark at the worldwide box office, is expected to earn the fourth spot in the list by crossing ₹85 crore mark within its lifetime run.

Dies Irae

Pranav Mohanlal joined hands with talented filmmaker Rahul Sadasivan for the horror thriller film, which hit the theatres in October 2025. Dies Irae, which highly impressed both the common audiences and the critics, emerged as one of the highest grossing Malayalam movies of 2025, by earning over ₹83 crore from the worldwide box office. As per the recent updates, Pranav's film is current in the fifth position in the Top 5 list.

Even though it was an extraordinary year for the Malayalam film industry, the Kerala Film Producer's Association suggest that only a handful Malayalam movies succeeded at the box office in 2025.
