The first episode of Zhang Linge-Zhao Jinmai's Our Generation majorly focuses on Jiang Qiao Xi and Lin Qi Le's childhood and how they became each other's friends during their elementary school phase. The episode ended on an emotional moment where Qiao Xi relocates to a new place and promises Qin Le to visit her during the winter break. But he fails to keep his promise and 5 years later, heartbroken Qin Le is still waiting for him.

In the next episodes, things take a heartbreaking turn when Qin Le pays a sudden visit to Qiao Xi's school in the city after she learns that he is in trouble for the letters that she has sent him. But to her surprise, Qiao Xi claims that he doesn't know Qin Le, leaving her in shock. Things turn interesting when Qin Le gets transferred to the same school as Qiao Xi, moreover, the two become classmates. But Qin Le is clearly hurt and doesn't want to think of him as her friend anymore.
