Sharib Hashmi Exclusive: Sharib Hashmi needs no introduction. From playing 'Zain' in 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' to be popularly known as 'JK' from The Family Man series, Sharib Hashmi has come a long way. The actor is currently riding high on glory with all the love and appreciation coming his way for his latest Bollywood film 'The Diplomat'. Besides the John Abraham-starrer, Hashmi had another release last week - 'Sanduk'. In the mystery-thriller, now streaming on Waves OTT, the actor played a double role.

Ahead of the releases, Sharib Hashmi had an exclusive tete-a-tete with Filmibeat where he recalled his working experience with Shah Rukh Khan, his favourite onscreen character that he's played so far and more.

Here are excerpts from the interview:

1) From playing a small yet impactful role in Jab Tak Hai Jaan to now Sanduk. You have been a part of some really fun projects across all mediums. How do you approach your roles differently for both mediums?

I don't change my approach according to the medium. I treat every character differently depending on the story and that's not because of the medium but because of the story. Because whatever medium it is, I have to act and I have to portray that character. I think there's not much difference between cinema and OTT. I try to mould my character according to the director's requirements. I don't have a fixed formula or pattern and I don't even want to have one because then all the characters will be the same.

2) You have worked with Shahrukh Khan sir in 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. We all know how charming and down-to-earth he is off screen. We all know how he always makes the other person feel the most important while having a conversation. Can you tell us your 'the moment' with SRK?

On the very first day, Shah Rukh Khan told me that he'd liked working with me. I said, 'thank you.' He'd asked if I come from a theatre background. I said, 'no sir, I don't have any connection with theatre.' Then one day he told me, 'it was lovely working with you.' I couldn't sleep that night. I was like 'King Khan' praised me. I got goose bumps. I lost my senses.

3) After being in this industry for so many years, is there a role or a type of character you have always wanted to play but haven't had the opportunity to yet?

I want to play a lot of characters that I haven't played before. I have never played a lawyer. I have never played a doctor. I also want to do something like what Kumud Mishra did in 'Rockstar'. It was such a sweet character.

Take a Poll

The character I played in 'Afwa', Chandan, is completely different from who I am as a person in real life. The way he talks, I had no connection with that character but I had a lot of fun playing 'Chandan'. He is one of my favorite characters.
