Chinna Raja Story

Chinna Raja passable comedy-thriller with the director succeeding more in the thriller portions.

Raja(Karthik) is an aspiring singer. His bandmaster Mani(Manivannan), after a lot of fibs, manages to get him the chance to sing at a big concert. The concert is organised by Radha(Roja) and romance blooms between them.

Raja hears about his father's death and is contacted by Dilip (Karthik, in a dual role), his father's second wife's son. Dilip believes that their father was murdered and asks for Raja's help in finding out the truth. There is an accident and Raja, believing Dilip to be dead, assumes his role to find out the truth.

Just when he learns that it was Dilip himself who was responsible for their father's death, he is arrested by the police (who think he is Dilip). The only one who believes him is the family lawyer Priya(Priya Raman). But when he returns home to prove that he is Raja, he finds that Dilip has taken his place. So Raja is arrested and sentenced to death.

The rest of the movie is about his attempts to prove his identity and Dilip's attempts to completely take over Raja's place.

The movi has some starting trouble with the initial portions. Most of the jokes fall flat and there are too many songs, none of which are really catchy or well picturised. But it picks up once Dilip is introduced and doesn't let up till the end. Just when things seem to be going the usual way, an unexpected twist adds spice to the proceedings and the climax is very well handled too.
