Karuppu is an Indian Tamil-language film directed by RJ Balaji, marking a significant tonal shift from his earlier comic-driven works. The screenplay is jointly written by Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, T. S. Gopi Krishnan, and Karan Aravind Kumar. Produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, the film stars Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, supported by Swasika, Indrans, Yogi Babu, Sshivada, Natty Subramaniam, and Supreeth Reddy. Music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, with cinematography handled by G. K. Vishnu and editing by R. Kalaivanan.

Story

Karuppu is a rural action drama that revolves around Saravanan, also known as Karuppuswamy, played by Suriya. Set in a village plagued by corruption and injustice, the story follows a powerful man who rises against anti-social forces and a corrupt legal system to protect innocent people. The film blends commercial action with elements of social commentary and mysticism.

RJ Balaji plays Baby Kannan, a lawyer connected to the corrupt system, while Trisha Krishnan appears as Preethi, adding an emotional and romantic layer to the story. As the conflict intensifies, Karuppu transforms into a larger-than-life savior figure who fights for justice and challenges the powerful people controlling the village and judiciary system. The movie combines courtroom drama, mass action sequences, emotional moments, and folk-inspired elements in a commercial entertainer format.

Release Date

Karuppu movie was released worldwide on 15 May 2026. The film was initially planned for a Diwali 2025 release but was postponed due to pending post-production work. The Telugu-dubbed version of the film will be released under the title Veerabhadrudu.

Distribution and TV Rights

The theatrical distribution of Karuppu in Tamil Nadu will be handled by Sakthi Film Factory. The satellite television rights of the film have been acquired by Zee Tamil, ensuring a strong post-theatrical broadcast presence.

OTT Release Information

Following its theatrical run, Karuppu is expected to make its digital debut on Netflix. While an official confirmation and premiere date are yet to be announced, industry buzz suggests that Netflix has bagged the OTT rights, positioning the film for a wide pan-Indian and global reach.
