Ratha Kanneer
Directed by R Krishnan and S Panju, Ratha Kanneer was bankrolled by Perumal Mudaliyar National Pictures. The movie narrates the tale of Mohanasundaram, an arrogant man, who later is doomed by his own karma.

Why was it ahead of its time: Released in 1954, the movie addresses many social and civic issues that are relevant even today. 49 years later, it was remade in Kannada as Raktha Kanneeru and became a massive hit.
Sigappu Rojakkal
Directed by Bharathiraja and produced by J Padmavathi, Sigappu Rojakkal stars Kamal Haasan & Sridevi. The film talks about a psycho, who seduces and kills women.

Why was it ahead of its time: Psychological thrillers were a rarity in 1978. But this film broke all stereotypes of Tamil cinema. It was later remade in Hindi, Japanese and Russian languages.
Aalavandhan
Starring Kamal Haasan & Raveena Tandon in the lead, Aalavandhan was directed by Suresh Krissna and produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu. The film narrates the tale of two identical twins, with two divergent characters.

Why was it ahead of its time: Several years after release of Aalavandhan, American director Quentin Tarantino acknowledged that the animation violence shown in this film inspired the 'Manga' scenes in his Kill Bill films.
Boys
Helmed by Shankar and produced by AM Rathnam, Boys is about 6 youngsters who succeed in life despite facing many downfalls.

Why was it ahead of its time: Released in the year 2003, the film conveyed what an average teen goes through in the most blatant way possible.
Irandaam Ulagam
Irandaam Ulagam narrates two parallel love stories happening at two different planes of existence. It was directed by Selvaraghavan and peoduced by Prasad V Potluri.

Why was it ahead of its time: Even today it is a bit futuristic to talk about different planes of existence and parallel worlds, though the movie was not executed well, Selvaraghavan had believed in the concept 3 years ago.
