Finally, the sequel of the epic Ponniyin Selvan, Ponniyin Selvan 2 hit the screens amid huge anticipations and sky-high expectations on April 28, all over the world. The Mani Ratnam directorial is winning applause and positive reviews from every nook and corner.

Mani Ratnam's dream project Ponniyin Selvan was compared to RRR director SS Rajamouli's first internationally acclaimed film Baahubali, starring Prabhas. The movie was compared back when the first part was released. Now that the sequel hit the screens, opinions and comparisons have again surfaced on social media platforms.

Although Mani Ratnam recently opened up and thanked Rajamouli for paving the way to make historic films on a large scale and taking them to international platforms, many differ. Mani Ratnam thanked Rajamouli at the pre-release event of Ponniyin Selvan 2 that was held in Hyderabad. Writer of Baahubali, Vijayendra Prasad, who is the father of Rajamouli was also present at the event.

In addition, it is noteworthy to mention that the first installment of the Chola's epic story didn't do as expected or as it did in the Telugu-speaking regions, compared to Tamil Nadu. When the film's released on September 30, 2022, the film's overdramatic emotions, screenplay, and pace were cited as a negative aspect, back in AP and Telangana.
