Kaantha New Version Hit The Screens: Here’s Why Dulquer Salmaan’s Film Got Trimmed

Dulquer Salmaan's Kaantha gets trimmed: The long-awaited period mystery drama film, which is directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, hit the theatres November 14, 2025. Dulquer Salmaan plays the central character Thiruchengod Kalidasan Mahadevan in the movie, which stars newcomer Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead. As per the latest updates, the team has trimmed the runtime of Kaantha by a few minutes and has removed some less appealing parts of the film.

The recent updates suggest that the Kaantha team - including director Selvamani Selvaraj and producers Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati - decided to trim the film, after the audiences complained of pacing issues. Even though the period mystery drama deals with a highly interesting subject, the slow pace of the film has made it tough for it to keep the audiences engaged. However, the issue is resolved now as the new version of Kaantha has hit the theatres ahead of this weekend.

Kaantha Box Office Collections

Even though the movie was released with a massive pre-release hype, Kaantha is not performing up to the expectations at the box office. Even though the collections are not bad at all, the audiences and industry had much bigger expectations for the Dulquer Salmaan starrer. As per the latest updates, the Selvamani Selvaraj directorial has earned around ₹20.75 crore net collection from the domestic (all-India) box office, within the first 7 days of its release.

Dulquer Salmaan played TK Mahadevan, the first superstar of Tamil cinema in the movie, which is set against the backdrop of Madras in the 1950s. Bhagayashri Borse played Kumari, a young actress who soon becomes Mahadevan's love interest, while senior actor Samuthirakani appeared in the role of his mentor-turned-arch rival, Ayya. Kaantha features Rana Daggubati, Ravindra Vijay, Nizhalgal Ravi, Gayathrie Shankar, Bagavathi Perumal, Vaiyapuri, and others, in the supporting roles.
