Pongal 2026 Tamil Releases: The most anticipated movie release season for the Tamil film industry is just weeks away. Kollywood is all set to have a highly exciting time in the beginning of 2026, with some long awaited films hitting the big screens. The list includes Jana Nayagan, which is touted to be the final film of Thalapathy Vijay, and Parasakthi, the upcoming Sivakarthikeyan starrer helmed by Sudha Kongara.

The upcoming action-packed entertainer, which is touted to be an adaptation of Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer Bhagavanth Kesari, marks Thalapathy Vijay's first onscreen collaboration with director H Vinoth. The popular star is playing the central character, reportedly named Vetri Kondan in the film, which stars Pooja Hedge and Mamitha Baiju as the female leads.

Jana Nayagan, which marks Vijay's final outing in films before his full-fledged political entry, is slated to hit the theatres on January 9, 2026, as a Pongal special release. Even though the film was initially expected to get an October 2025 release, it was pushed to the Pongal season due to technical reasons. A grand audio launch event will be held on December 27, 2025, while the Jana Nayagan trailer will be released on the occasion of New Year 2026.

Parasakthi, on the other hand, marks director Sudha Kongara's return to films after the massive success of the 2020-released Amazon Prime Video original film Soorarai Pottru, and Thangam in the Netflix series Paava Kadhaigai. The movie marks the National Award-winner's first collaboration with popular actors Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sree Leela.

As per the reports, Sivakarthikeyan plays the protagonist in the film, which stars Atharvaa and Sree Leela in pivotal roles. Ravi Mohan plays the lead antagonist in the movie, which is gearing up to hit the theatres on January 14, 2026, on the special occasion of Thai Pongal. The long-awaited Parasakthi official trailer is expected to be out by the beginning of January 2026.
