Thalaivar 173 Cast Update: Rajinikanth, the legendary superstar of Indian cinema is gearing up to kickstart his 173rd outing in film, next year. The highly anticipated project, which has been tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, will mark the Enthiran star's reunion with his onscreen rival and close friend, legendary actor Kamal Haasan. Even though the project was originally supposed to be directed by Sundar C, the senior filmmaker eventually walked out citing personal reasons.

If the recent updates are to be believed, Parking fame director Ramkumar Balakrishnan is likely step in to direct the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer, which is produced by Kamal Haasan's homer banner Raaj Kamal Films International. Even though the makers have not officially announced the new update yet, the grapevine suggests that the casting process of the much-awaited film have already begun.

The rumour mills suggest that Sai Pallavi, the celebrated Tamil actress who is now gearing up to make her Bollywood debut with epic film Ramayana, is in talks for Thalaivar 173. If things go as planned, the popular actress might join the upcoming Rajinikanth starrer, to play the female lead. However, the cinephiles and Sai Pallavi's fans will have to wait for the official announcement a little longer, as producer Kamal Haasan and his team are planning to keep everything under the wraps for now.

If the reports are to be believed, many popular filmmakers including the hitmakers Nelson Dilipkumar, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and others were rumoured to be in talks with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for Thalaivar 173. However, later it was revealed to be false, as Lokesh is currently focusing on his upcoming project, which is expected to be announced soon. Nelson Dilipkumar, on the other hand, is busy with Jailer 2, his next outing with Rajinikanth. Even though fans were expecting Karthik Subbaraj to step in as the director, it was later revealed that the Petta director was never a frontrunner for the project.
