Thalaivar 173 Finds Its Director? Rajinikanth, the legendary superstar, is gearing up to team up with his onscreen rival and very good friend Kamal Haasan for his 173rd outing in films. The highly anticipated project, which has been tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, was originally expected to be helmed by Sundar C. However, the Aranmanai fame director soon walked out of the project, citing personal reasons, thus leaving the Rajinikanth fans and the film's team in dismay.

Earlier, many popular filmmakers of the contemporary Tamil cinema, including actor-director Dhanush, were rumoured to be replacing Sundar C as the captain of the Thalaivar 173 team. However, none of these reports were confirmed by producer Kamal Haasan or his team. Instead, the Thug Life star just revealed that Sundar C's exit happened quite unexpectedly, and confirmed that they are still looking for the right person to take over the Rajinikanth starrer.

Meanwhile, the recent updates suggest that Ramkumar Balakrishnan, the young filmmaker who rose to fame with the success of his 2023-released film Parking, might direct Thalaivar 173. According to the grapevine, the talented filmmaker recently narrated a story to leading man Rajinikanth, who instantly approved of it. The rumour mills suggest that Ramkumar has already landed the big opportunity, and an official announcement on the same will be made in a few days.

Previously, many popular filmmakers including the hitmakers Nelson Dilipkumar, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and others were rumoured to be in talks with Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for Thalaivar 173. However, later it was revealed to be false, as Lokesh is currently focusing on his upcoming project Kaithi 2, while Nelson is busy with the making of Jailer 2. Even though fans deeply wished Karthik Subbaraj to step in, it is now obvious that the director was never a frontrunner for the project.
