Jana Nayagan New Release Date: When Will Thalapathy Vijay's Film Hit The Theatres? The controversies surrounding the censor certification of the H Vinoth directorial has been making headlines from the last few days. Jana Nayagan, which was slated to be released today (January 9, 2026), was postponed at the last minute after the Madras High Court pushed the verdict on the censor delay case.

Now, even after the court ordered the censor board to issue a certificate with U/A 16 plus rating for the Thalapathy Vijay starrer, the issues have not ended. Reportedly, the CBFC is currently planning to file an appeal to prevent Jana Nayagan's theatrical release with U/A certification.

If the recent updates are to be believed, the CBFC is planning to file an appeal against the court order, which directed them to provide Jana Nayagan with a U/A certificate. The censor board has also requested for a Monday (January 12, 2026) hearing for the same, but the court has not confirmed the date yet.

If things go in favour of Jana Nayagan, the Thalapathy Vijay starrer has high chances to hit the theatres across the globe on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. It is indeed an excellent choice of date for the H Vinoth directorial, as it will ensure a five-days-long weekend run for the film. No other big ticket films are releasing in the upcoming week, and it will ensure a solo run for Vijay's final film at the theatres.

But, Jana Nayagan might not hit the theatres on January 14, 2026, or the upcoming weekend, if the censor board succeeds in extending the legal battle on the film's certification. A final decision on the Thalapathy Vijay starrer's new release date will be made only after considering the Madras High Court's decision on the CBFC's appeal, which is expected to be filed today (January 9, 2026) afternoon.

Along with Thalapathy Vijay, the project bankrolled by KVN Productions features a massive star cast including Premalu actress Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and others in the key roles. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the songs and the original score for the film, which is scripted by director H Vinoth, himself.
