Kara, which is touted to be a period action drama, stars Jana Nayagan actor Mamitha Baiju as the female lead. Interestingly, the plotline of the Dhanush's ambitious project has been revealed, and has left the cinephiles quite surprised.

Recently, director Vignesh Raja, who is gearing up to team up with Dhanush for the first time in his career with Kara, made some exciting updates on the project. In his interview Vikatan, the young filmmaker confirmed that the upcoming period action drama has a highly socially-relevant subject, that will resonate with all the audiences. Interestingly Kara is set in the early 1990s, but still has a present day connection.

According to the filmmaker, the film's story is set in the Ramanathapuram area of Tamil Nadu, in the backdrop against the year 1991. Kara Samy, who had walked away from certain things in his life, is forced to face them again. He tries to protect and guide the people who trusted him, helping them reach safety.. It's an emotional and intense journey set in a turbulent time.

During that period, an intense war had taken place between Iraq and the United States. Just like the present day situation, the oil depots were being bombed back then as well, which was causing massive fires and destruction. As a result, there was a severe shortage of petrol and diesel across the globle. Interestingly, this part of the Kara synopsis has left the cinephile quite intrigued and surprised.

Dhanush appears as the central character Kara Samy in the upcoming period drama, which features Mamitha Baiju as the female lead, Selli. Kara features a massive star cast including Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, KS Ravikumar, Karunas, Prithvi Pandiarajan, and others in the pivotal roles. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music score for the film, which is gearing up for an April 30, 2026 release.
