The Ajith Kumar starrer hit the theatres across the globe yet again, on Friday, January 23, 2026. Reportedly, the Venkat Prabhu directorial has beaten Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli with its Day 1 box office collection, thus setting a new record.

As per the latest reports by Pinkvilla, Mankatha has created a new history at the Tamil Nadu box office, with its Day 1 collection. The latest updates suggest that the Ajith Kumar starrer has made a Day 1 worldwide collection of over ₹3.75 crore to become the biggest-ever opener among the Tamil re-releases. Thus, the Venkat Prabhu film has succeeded in beating the Thalapathy Vijay starrer Ghilli, which was the previous record holder.

For the uninitiated, the Dharani directorial which had its re-release in April 2024, had collected around ₹3.5 crore from Tamil Nadu with its Day 1 collection. If the reports are to be believed, the Day 1 all-India (domestic) box office collection of Mankatha now stands at ₹4.1 crore, while the Thalapathy Vijay had collected around ₹4 crore.

Mankatha Plot, Cast And Crew

For the uninitiated, Mankatha revolves around the central character Vinayak Mahadevan IPS, a corrupt ACP in Mumbai who joins a gang of four who plans on a heist of cricket betting money. Ajith Kumar won the hearts with his exceptional performance as Vinayak, the leading man with negative shades, in the Venkat Prabhu directorial.

Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeramiah, Vaibhav, Ashwin Kakumanu, Premgi Amaran, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, Aravind Akash, Subbu Panchu, and others essayed the supporting roles in Mankatha. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the songs and the original score for the film. Sakthi Saravanan is the director of photography. Praveen KL and NB Srikanth handled the editing of the film, which is bankrolled by Cloud Nine Movies.
