Mankatha had a fantastic opening at the box office by beating Ghilli re-release. After completing the first 3 days of its release, the Ajith starrer has yet again overpowered Thalapathy Vijay's film, and set a new record.

As per the recent updates by the box office tracker Ramesh Bala, Mankatha has now beaten the Ghilli, to emerge as the all-time highest grossing first weekend opener among the Tamil cinema re-releases. According to the latest reports by the Bollywood Box Office X handle, the Ajith Kumar starrer has made a total gross collection of ₹11.55 crore within the first weekend (3 days) of its release from Tamil Nadu.

Ghilli, on the other hand, had made an opening weekend (3 days) collection of ₹9.30 crore, when it had a re-release in 2024. The reports also suggest that Mankatha has made a total worldwide collection of around ₹22.5 crore in its first weekend at the theatres. The Thalapathy Vijay starrer, on the other hand, had collected over ₹21 crore in its first weekend.

If things proceed at the same rate, Mankatha has high chances to emerge as the all-time highest grossing re-release in the history of Tamil cinema. However, the Ajith Kumar starrer's future at the box office now depends on its performance during the weekdays.

Ajith Kumar played the role of ACP Vinayak Mahadevan IPS, a corrupted police officer in Mankatha, which marked his first collaboration with director Venkat Prabhu. Trisha Krishnan played the female lead in the film, which stars Arjun Sarja, Andrea Jeramiah, Vaibhav, Ashwin Kakumanu, Premgi Amaran, Mahat Raghavendra, Jayaprakash, Aravind Akash, Subbu Panchu, and others essayed the supporting roles.

Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the songs and the original score for the film. Sakthi Saravanan is the director of photography. Praveen KL and NB Srikanth handled the editing of the film. Mankatha is bankrolled by Cloud Nine Movies.
