Vaa Vaathiyaar Hit Or Flop? Early Audience Verdict Out: Karthi teamed up with director Nalan Kumarasamy for the action comedy film, which hit the theatres today (January 14, 2026). Vaa Vaathiyaar, which was originally slated to be released in December 2025, finally got released after multiple delays. After its initial shows, the Karthi starrer has been receiving positive reviews from the audiences.

As per the latest updates, Vaa Vaathiyaar has won the hearts of Tamil cinema audiences, who were waiting for an entertaining film this Pongal season. Even though the audiences are not impressed with the slow first half of the film, the impressive interval sequence and engaging second half compensated for the same. Karthi, as always, highly impressed the cinephiles with his performance as the MRG-inspired protagonist in Vaa Vaathiyaar.
From the early audience verdict, it is safe to assume that the Nalan Kumarasamy directorial, which stayed away from all the chatter, has now emerged as a silent winner of Pongal 2026 season. The quirky fun moments, engaging second half, and the neat portrayal of a unique genre has already made Vaa Vaathiyaar, the audiences' favourite fo this season. The Karthi starrer is now expected to do exceptionally well at the box office.
Vaa Vaathiyaar Plot, Star Cast And Crew
Karthi appears as the central character DSP Rameshwaran, a police officer in Vaa Vaathiyaar, which marked his first collaboration with director Nalan Kumarasamy. The action comedy film narrates the story of the protagonist, who is highly influenced by his grandfather who is a die-hard fan of legendary actor-politican MGR.
Krithi Shetty appears as the female lead opposite Karthi in Vaa Vaathiyaar, which features Sathyaraj, Raj Kiran, Nizhalgal Ravi, Anandaraj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, GM Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, PL Thenappan, and others in supporting roles. Santhosh Narayanan composed the songs and original score for the film. George C Williams cranked the camera and Vetre Krishnan handled the editing for the film, which is bankrolled by Studio Green.
