Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has been grabbing eyeballs as the makers recently introduced a seven-year leap, after which Rahul Sharma was introduced as Anshuman, the third wheel in Armaan and Abhira's story. In an exclusive chat with Filmibeat, the new entrant opened up about his character, his off-screen equation with Samridhii Shukla, and much more.

RAHUL SHARMA ON PRESSURE OF JOINING YEH RISHTA KYA KEHLATA HAI

Filmibeat: Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is one of Indian television's most iconic and longest-running shows. How does it feel to become a part of such a massive legacy?

Rahul Sharma: It's a very iconic and massive show, and the number 1. Seeing so much love from the audience, you can feel why it is number 1. I am excited and really happy that I took this decision.

Filmibeat: As someone stepping into a parallel lead role, do you feel any pressure to live up to the show's history and high audience expectations?

Rahul Sharma: I didn't have any pressure, and I don't take pressure. Responsibility is everywhere, even when you go for a new show, and the credibility is there, whether you are doing lead or parallel lead. Taking pressure will spoil things.

Filmibeat: Many actors before you have become household names through this show. Do you see Anshuman as a turning point in your career?

Rahul Sharma: It's too early to say being a household name, but I am happy to be part of it, and if it turns out that way, then what else can you ask for?

Filmibeat: Did you follow the show before being cast? What was your initial reaction when you were offered the role of Anshuman?

Rahul Sharma: Initially, I had seen seasons 1, 2, and 3 because Harshad (Chopda) Bhai was there. It's good I haven't seen this season, as it's good to come in fresh as a character. I didn't want to know the characters, and I want to know them on set and with the scenes. This creates a better impact on screen.

Filmibeat: You're paired opposite Samridhii Shukla, whose portrayal of Abhira has become hugely popular. What's your equation with her like off-screen?

Rahul Sharma: My equation is still building, and she is sweet, hardworking, and very humble and down-to-earth. Very calm and composed, she is, and treats everyone equally.

Filmibeat: What kind of fan reactions are you anticipating with Anshuman's entry? Are you ready for shipping names like #AnshuRa and all?

Rahul Sharma: I was not expecting this kind of reaction, and seeing people's reactions, I am surprised that they liked it so much. Fans are sweet, and they create their version of dreams, so it's overwhelming to see such tags.

Filmibeat: Lastly, what message would you like to give to the loyal fans of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai who are curious about Anshuman's role in Abhira's life?

Rahul Sharma: I am not here to break anything (referring to Abhira-Armaan's jodi); I am here to give a fresh start and change a few things in a good way. It's a turning point for the show, and the audience will feel happy. You will see more layers of Anshuman and good scenes ahead.
