Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2: I vividly remember how the early 2000s was dominated by Kyunki Saas on Star Plus. Despite the late-night slot, the show starring Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay emerged as a massive hit. I can still recollect Gayatri's first scene where she was dancing while wearing her ghungroos.
As I got an opportunity to interact with Kamalika Guha Thakurta, aka Gayatri, I bombarded her with several questions. It's her grace and million-dollar smile that always captures the attention of the audience, and trust me, I was blown away with her charm too.
In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Abhishek Ranjit, the actress got candid about the amazing response to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, revealing why the show connected with the masses once again.
Kamalika Didn't Know How Today's Generation Would React To Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2
Returning to one of Indian television's most iconic shows after 25 years naturally came with mixed emotions for Kamalika. She said that she didn't know how the younger generation would react to the second season.
"I was very excited to be called back for the show, but I was also sceptical. Twenty-five years have gone by and audiences have changed. Family dynamics have changed too because people now mostly live in nuclear families. I genuinely didn't know how today's generation would react to the show," Kamalika quipped.
However, all her apprehensions disappeared once the second season premiered on Star Plus.
"I was extremely happy when the show reached the top spot. It has been doing wonderfully since then. That kind of audience acceptance has been overwhelming," she added while talking about the audience reaction and the amazing TRPs of Kyunki Saas 2.
Balancing Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 And Saru Was Physically Demanding
Kamalika was juggling between two shows as she was a part of two projects on different channels. The Naagin actress was simultaneously shooting for Saru and Kyunki Saas 2.
"It was physically tough because I was shooting for both shows simultaneously. But as an actor, it was a wonderful opportunity. I'm grateful that both production houses managed my dates and supported me."
Talking about playing Kamini in Saru, she said the character was a complete contrast to Gayatri from Kyunki.
"Gayatri eventually became negative, but Kamini was a complete badass. She would pull out a gun and dominate everyone around her. I thoroughly enjoyed playing her."
