Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai Today Episode: Tonight's (January 23) episode of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai opens on a tense note as Surekha storms into the Poddar house, dragging Manisha along with her. The sudden chaos draws Kaveri's attention, and she asks what has happened. Seething with anger, Surekha says that everything in her life was peaceful until Manisha entered her house.

When Kaveri calmly asks whether Manisha has committed any mistake, Surekha replies that while mistakes can sometimes be unintentional, what Manisha and Kiara did was deliberate. Pressed to explain, Surekha reveals the truth that has been eating her from within - they hid Kiara's past drug addiction from her.
YEH RISHTA KYA KEHLATA HAI JANUARY 23 WRITTEN UPDATE: HERE'S WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN TODAY'S EPISODE?
Abhir tries to intervene, but Surekha silences him, declaring that today he will not speak even a single word. She continues, accusing everyone of hiding Kiara's "big truth" both before and after the marriage. She says that when Kiara's health worsened, instead of understanding her pain, Manisha and Manoj argued with her. Overwhelmed by fear and anger, Surekha warns Kaveri that if anything happens to the unborn child, the responsibility will lie solely on Kiara's so-called addiction.
Kaveri finally loses her patience. She firmly states that Kiara once had an addiction, but she has overcome it, and it is unfair to keep branding her with that past. She adds that if Surekha wishes to wash her hands of responsibility, she may do so, because Kaveri herself will stand by Kiara and support her completely till her delivery. When Surekha again refers to Kiara as an "addict," Kaveri sharply corrects her, saying that Kiara is her name, and addiction was her mistake, not her identity. She reminds Surekha that Abhir's list of mistakes is far longer, yet she ignored them for the sake of both children.
Surekha, hurt and sarcastic, retorts that now she understands where Kiara gets the courage to commit such mistakes. Kiara tries to intervene, explaining that neither Kaveri nor Manisha ever meant to insult her. But Surekha mockingly claps and declares that Kiara herself is the root of all problems. She compares her to Charu, saying that Charu never touched alcohol yet suffered from cancer, while Kiara fell into addiction, became pregnant before marriage, and behaved carelessly. According to her, such a girl deserves neither trust nor forgiveness.
Unable to bear it anymore, Manisha finally speaks. She says that trust and forgiveness no longer matter. If Kiara's presence troubles Surekha so much, Kiara will stay with her, but she makes it clear that a pregnant woman needs peace, care, and happiness. For Kiara's well-being, Surekha's shadow will not fall on her. She begins to take Kiara away. Kajal suggests asking Abhir and Kiara what they want, but Manisha replies that Abhir would surely want his wife to be respected and happy. Abhir, however, remains silent.
Manisha then announces that Kiara will stay at the Poddar house, but Kiara stops her. With tears in her eyes, she says she cannot leave her home. She recalls how, when her addiction was revealed, even Manisha had scolded her, and no one supported her except Abhir. During the darkest phase of her life, Abhir stood by her like a pillar. She cannot abandon him now. She assures that whatever issues Surekha has, she will sit with her and resolve them maturely, but she will not walk away from her marriage and her home.
Meanwhile, Abhira returns home, expecting Maira to be extremely upset with her. Instead, she is shocked to find Armaan there, equally disturbed. He questions why she did not inform them earlier that Vani was participating in a dance competition. Maira feels deeply hurt, believing that Abhira skipped her performance but attended another child's event.
Abhira reminds Armaan of Maira's first dance performance, and together they recall emotional moments - when Maira danced despite being injured, when Abhira danced with her despite being sick, and when Maira called her "mom" for the first time. Abhira then explains that not every child is lucky enough to see their parents smiling. Vani had joined the competition to imagine her parents smiling at her from the audience. Anita had always dreamed of seeing Vani perform on a big stage, and it took Vani a long time to gather the courage to share this dream with Abhira. She reveals that Vani's name had been selected, but due to preparations for boarding school, she could not discuss it earlier.
A flashback shows Abhira taking Vani to boarding school and giving her coconut water. Vani says she is ready to go because Armaan told her it is a good school and that she will make many friends. When Vani's purse falls, Abhira notices a photograph of Anita and learns that Anita had trained Vani in dance, filled out her forms, prepared her for auditions, and even took her there. Tragically, Anita passed away before the competition. Abhira realizes that Vani's name was on the final list, but she could not tell her earlier as she was already being sent to boarding school.
Back in the present, Abhira says that if Anita's last dream had been shattered, she could never have forgiven herself. Vani danced on stage, imagining her mother sitting in front of her, and that happiness meant everything. She clarifies that she never intended to hurt or surprise Maira or Armaan. She had even tried calling Armaan, but the loud music at the venue prevented him from hearing the phone.
Abhira tells Armaan that Vani will go to boarding school only after the dance competition. If she reaches the finals, keeping her for a few extra days is justified, and if she is not selected, she will be sent immediately. Armaan agrees, though he worries about Maira's feelings. Abhira assures him that Maira will never feel neglected. Armaan finally agrees but insists that if Vani is selected, she must leave for boarding school right after the competition.
VANI GETS SELECTED FOR DANCE COMPETITION; ABHIRA IN DILEMMA
When the family learns that Vani will stay until the competition, they are shocked. Vidya and Sanjay accuse Abhira of prioritizing Vani over her own daughter. Madhav, however, supports Abhira, saying that Maira may forget in a few days, but Vani has lost her parents at a very young age, and that pain will remain with her forever. Fulfilling her mother's last dream will at least bring her some happiness.
Just then, Manisha arrives with a letter that stuns everyone. Both Maira and Vani have been selected for the dance competition finals, and the rule states that every participant must perform with a parent. Vidya pointedly asks Abhira whom she will choose - her own daughter or Vani.
Abhir gently speaks to Surekha, acknowledging that her anger is understandable and that Manisha may also have spoken harshly. However, he urges her to accept that Kiara has shown great maturity. He reminds her that Kiara no longer has any bad habits and that pregnancy is the most sensitive phase in a woman's life. Despite everything, Kiara chose to stay with them and their family. He requests that Surekha let go of the past and support Kiara with love and care. Finally, Surekha's heart softens, and she agrees.
Later, Abhira grows worried about who will become Vani's dance partner in the finals. Around the same time, Rahi calls her, distressed about the chawl demolition notice. Abhira tells her that legally nothing can be done immediately, but assures her that she will find a way.
Rahi says she trusts Abhira completely, just like she trusts Anupama. Abhira replies that Anupama herself is a storm, and she will surely find a solution. She also tells Rahi that she is sending her a diary and asks her to write in it, saying that on Basant Panchami, they will all make a fresh beginning.
That night, Abhira writes in her own diary and prays to God that by the time the dance competition ends, Vani is accepted by everyone in the house and is allowed to stay there forever.
