Hari Hara Veera Mallu Part 1: Sword vs Spirit is a Telugu period action drama movie directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, Jyothi Krisna. The movie casts Pawan Kalyan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Bobby Deol in the main lead roles along with Nassar, Sunil, Raghu Babu, Subbaraju, Ayyappa P Sharma, Nora Fatehi, and many others have seen in supporting roles. The music was composed by MM Keeravaani while the cinematography was done by Gnanashekar and Manoj Paramahamsa and it is edited by Praveen KL. The film is produced by A Dayakar Rao under Mega Surya Production banner.
Story
Set in the region of Machilipatnam, in the village of Kolluru, Hari Hara Veera Mallu (Pawan Kalyan) is a heroic thief who steals the riches of the Hyderabad Nawabs and distributes them to the poor. During one such journey, he falls in love at first sight with Panchami (Nidhhi Agerwal), a woman held captive by a nobleman of the Nizam Nawabs. While planning to loot a convoy transporting precious diamonds for the Nawab, Veera Mallu succeeds in his mission and attempts to rescue Panchami, but she betrays him. Captured by the rulers of Hyderabad, Veera Mallu is imprisoned.
However, impressed by his intelligence and thieving skills, the rulers assign him a daring mission, to steal the legendary Kohinoor diamond from Aurangzeb (Bobby Deol) in Delhi. The story unfolds around several intriguing questions: Why did Veera Mallu fall for Panchami? Why is she imprisoned by the Nawab’s nobleman? Who is she really, and why does she ask Veera Mallu to help her escape? What makes Veera Mallu target Aurangzeb? Is the Kohinoor his ultimate goal, or is there something deeper? These questions form the core of Hari Hara Veera Mallu’s narrative.
Production & Development:
Pawan Kalyan teamed up with director Krish Jagarlamudi for a period drama after being approached by producer A. M. Rathnam in 2019. Titled PSPK 27 initially, the film was formally launched in January 2020. Set in the 17th century during the Mughal-Qutb Shahi era, the title Hari Hara Veera Mallu was officially announced in March 2021. Originally planned as a single film, it was later confirmed in May 2024 to release in two parts. Production duties were passed on to A. M. Jyothi Krishna due to delays caused by the pandemic, Kalyan's political work, and Krish's other commitments.
Pre-Production:
Produced by Mega Surya Production, the film features music by M. M. Keeravani and cinematography by Gnana Shekar V. S. Dialogues are penned by Sai Madhav Burra. VFX is handled by Ben Lock, known for his work in Aquaman, Warcraft, and Star Wars.
Casting:
Bobby Deol replaced Arjun Rampal as Aurangzeb after the latter exited due to scheduling issues. Nidhhi Agerwal plays Panchami opposite Kalyan. Jacqueline Fernandez was initially signed but later replaced by Nargis Fakhri as Mughal empress Roshanara.
Filming:
Shooting began in September 2020 with periodic halts due to the pandemic and Kalyan’s political and film commitments. Historic sets like Charminar, Red Fort, and Machilipatnam Port were recreated. Major shoots took place at Ramoji Film City and Vijayawada with over 900 crew members. Filming wrapped in May 2025, nearly five years after it began.
Marketing:
The first-look poster dropped on 10 April 2022 during Rama Navami, followed by the Sword vs Spirit teaser on 2 May 2024. A new poster confirming the release date was revealed on 16 May 2025, and the third single Asura Hananam launched on 19 May 2025. In June, Kalyan returned ₹11 crore from his remuneration to aid completion and will lead the film's promotions.
Theatrical Release:
Initially planned for Sankranti 2022, the release faced multiple delays due to pandemic disruptions and Kalyan's political schedule. After several reschedules, the movie was finally released in theatres on July 24, 2025. It opened simultaneously in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil, catering to audiences across the country. Moviegoers can now witness this grand cinematic spectacle on the big screen nationwide.
