Barroz, Kathanaar and 3 more: A Look At Upcoming Malayalam Fantasy Dramas
Jayasurya is set to deliver his next film titled 'Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer' and the film is announced to be released in the next year. The fanatasy horror drama which directed by Rojin Thomas also marks the Mollywood debut of versatile Telugu actress Anushka Shetty. Apart from this project, Mohanlal's directorial debut Barroz and Tovino Thomas 'Minnal Murali 2' will be released in theaters this year. Barroz
This upcoming fantasy drama marks the directorial debut of actor Mohanlal. Based on the novel written by Jiyo Ponnuse, who delivered India's first 3D film 'My Dear Kuttichathan'. Mohanlal will be seen in the titular role in the movie, produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Ashirvard Productions. Apart from Mohanlal, Padmavati Rao, Sara Vega and Komal Sharma will be seen in pivotal roles. Minnal Murali fame Guru Somasundaram and Prithviraj also will be playing a significant role in the movie. Made on a hefty budget of Rs 300 crore, Barroz will hit the theaters on December 21, 2023, in multiple languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
Kathanar -The Wild Sorcerer
Jayasurya's 'Kathanar - The Wild Sorcerer' is one of the much-anticipated upcoming movies in Malayalam. Actor Jayasurya plays a lead in the movie, directed by Rojin Thomas, popular for his National Award-winning movie 'Home'. Apart from this, the film also marks Tollywood actress Anushka Shetty's debut in Malayalam cinema. Interestingly the movie has made headlines as the first Indian film to use virtual production technology. The film will be shot at South India’s biggest modular shooting floor with a total budget of Rs 75 crores. If reports are to be believed, the film will be released in theaters next year.
Minnal Murali 2
Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph's Minnal Murali released in theaters in 2021 and went on to become a huge blockbuster. It was India's first realistic super heroic movie, it was trending at number 4 on the global Top 10 list for non-English films in just the first week of its launch. According to latest reports, the sequel part of the movie 'Minnal Murali -2' will be released in theaters on this year. But the makers have not yet confirmed the release date of the movie.
Gandharva Jr
Gandharva Jr is a fantasy drama, directed by Vishnu Aravind.Praveen Prabharam and Sujin Sujathan penned script for the movie, produced by Little Big Films and JMInfotainment. Unni Mukundan in the main lead role, the title announcement for ‘Gandharva Jr’ was made in 2022. As per the latest reports, The movie is billed as a pan-Indian film that will be released in multiple languages including Malayalam and Hindi.
Athbutha Dweep 2
Unnimukundan, is reportedly set to collaborate with Vinayan for his upcoming movie 'Athbutha Dweep 2'. The film is a sequel to the 2005 release 'Athbutha Dweep'. The upcoming movie will feature Unni Mukundan, Pakru, and Abhilash Pillai in lead roles. According to the latest reports, it is scheduled to begin filming in November 2023.
